Purpose

Pieces on this site exist to explain a mechanism, a statute, or a process. They do not exist to rank products or to move a reader into an application. When a sentence starts to sound like “you should take this card”, we cut it.

Sources

Prefer the primary text: the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, the National Credit Code, the Privacy Act, the Credit Reporting Code, ASIC regulatory guides, AFCA rules, and the published guides of Equifax, Experian and illion. Secondary journalism is a lead, not a citation. Where the law has moved — responsible lending, buy now pay later, small-amount credit — we date the piece and say so.

Voice

Australian English. Specific over vague. Short on adjectives, long on the clause in the contract that actually costs money. We do not write “Aussies” and we do not write “hack your score”.

Advice and licensing

We are not an Australian credit licensee and we do not provide credit assistance. Staff and guests do not recommend a particular credit contract, suggest that a reader apply, or offer to arrange credit. See credit licences and credit assistance for the legal distinction we are trying to honour.

Corrections

If a fact is wrong, we change it and note the update at the top of the piece when the change is material. Send evidence through the contact form, topic “Correction”. A difference of opinion is not a correction.

Conflicts and paid links

House writers do not take fees from lenders or brokers for coverage. Guest writers disclose employment and clients. Any paid or affiliate link is marked rel="sponsored" and labelled on the page. The write for us page is the public version of that rule.

Images

Photographs are Creative Commons or public domain, downloaded and hosted here, and credited on the article and on the image credits page. We do not scrape stock libraries and hope nobody notices.
